The EuroScope exhibition presents a panorama of the different facets of European contemporary art over nearly half a century. Bringing together both internationally renowned artists and others regarded as still emerging, and comprising a variety of media, the exhibition is hung in way that places strong emphasis on visual and intellectual clashes.

Some pieces exhibited are best appreciated on their own, while others benefit from being viewed in relation to adjacent works. This layout reflects Europe's ability to generate both shared values and competing ideas, so creating the tension that is the foundation of innovation.

The EIB's collection has a clearly European dimension and echoes the role played by the Bank in promoting European integration.  It now contains over 580 works by European artists representing artistic creation over the past 50 years. To be in the collection, works have to have been created after 1958 by an artist who is living at the time of acquisition and comes from or lives in one of the EU Member States or candidate countries. Works are acquired by means of a painstaking selection process under the guidance of the Arts Committee with the help of recognised experts. The collection is regularly enriched with new acquisitions as the European Union and its art evolves.

This exhibition is being held under the auspices of Luxembourg's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
