Poet, essayist, short story writer and novelist, Ana Blandiana is one of the great figures of Romanian literature and a symbol of resistance for angry youth. She is a member of the Romanian Academy.

The author of over thirty books translated into 26 languages, she has been awarded many prestigious literary awards in Romania and Europe, most recently the Princess of Asturias Prize 2024 on May 23.

Banned from publishing three times during the communist regime, Ana Blandiana refounded the Romanian PEN Club after 1989, of which she was president and is now honorary president. She founded and directs the Civic Alliance. She chairs the Civic Academy Foundation and initiated the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and the Resistance in Sighet, recognized by the Council of Europe as a place of remembrance on the continent.
