Claude Meyers’ book traces the history of the “Metzerschmelz,” a steelworks that has contributed to Luxembourg’s industrial development since the late 19th century. It provides an overview of the technical advancements in steel production – from the extraction and processing of iron ore to the emergence of the Luxembourg steel industry.

The site of the former “Schmelz” has undergone continuous transformation since 1871. Photographs taken between 2019 and 2024 document the current state of the now-decommissioned plant and illustrate both historical changes and the aesthetic qualities of industrial architecture.
